WORK IN SOUTHERN RIDINGS 1 ENGINEER’S REPORT TO COUNCIL 1 . I The report of the engineer (Mr W. G. Macky) of work done in the ridings adjacent to Te Awamutu, as submitted to Monday’s meeting of the Waipa County Council, read as under: Kaipaki Riding: Mill and Norrish Roads were dressed with Fisher’s pit sand. Rukuhia-Kaipaki Road at Mystery Creek has received an application of Roose and Waipa quarry metal. Grading has been continued throughout the riding. Pukekura Riding: McLarnon Road, Hannon Road and Leamington Road were dressed with Grey’s sand. Maungatautari, Cambridge-Roto-o-rangi, and Cambridge-Ohaupo Roads received attention. Hannon’s Road deviation has had a course of rubble from McCaw’s quarry and sand from Grey’s and Peppercorn’s pits. Leamington, Settlement, Massey, Cox and Sheet Roads were patched with Grey’s sand. Regular grading has been continued.
Mangapiko Riding: Fairly extensive applications of crushed metal from Pirongia dump have been necessary to Frankton-Pirongia Main Highway and Paterangi-Ohaupo Main Road. Te Awamutu-Meadway’s Main Road was lightly patched with, metal. McGregor’s, Ngaroto, Bank, May, Ryan, Bowman and Sing’s Roads were patched with sand from the various local pits. Regular use has been made of the grader and general surface work has been carried out. A culvert at the junction of Anderson Road and Frankton-Pirongia Main Highway has been lifted and re-laid to give improved safety of entrance to Anderson Road.
Rangiaohia Riding: Puahue and Chamberlain’s Main Roads and Bond’s Road have received heavy applications of crushed metal from Puahue. 'Ngaroto Road was patched with sand from Railway pit. All roads have received attention from the grader. Orakau Riding: Heavy rain during the period has made necessary extensive repairs to Mangere Road where considerable quantities of Rea’s pit sand have been applied. Patching with Puniu gravel was affected on Parawera-Wharepapa Main Road. Riotongata Road was patched with sand from Rea’s pit. Grading attention to water-tables and general surface work has continued. KihikihiArapuni Main Highway has been patched with metal from P.W.D. dump and sand from pit. A culvert in Waimanu Road was replaced with 9-inch concrete pipes. Investigations at the site of the proposed bridge on Griffiths new road indicate that satisfactory bearings for the abutments will be obtained.
Kakepuku Riding: Grading of surfaces and general maintenance has been continued. Moderate quantities of Pirongia crushed metal, have been required to maintain the surface of Te Awamutu-Barton’s Main Highway. Tokanui Main Road received heavy dressings of Puahue metal and Puniu gravel. Te Mawhai and Waikeria Roads were lightly patched with Puahue metal and Puniu gravel. The 9inch culvert across Factory Road near Corboy’s has been relaid to greater depth and lengthened. General. Drain Cleaning Contracts: All contracts are now completed with, the exception of Kakepuku North where a small amount of work requires finafl inspection at Benn’s Road.
Te Awamutu-Pirongia Main Highway: With the completion of the first coat seal this contract is now finished.
Te Awamutu - Cambridge Main Highway: Maintenance has continued and the road is in a satisfactory state. Those present were Mr F. L. Onion (chairman), Crs G. S. Hall, E. S. Harding, S. G. Russell, R. J. Church, M. W. Cunningham, W. S. Germann, H. N. Dudley, L. T. Duncan, E. C. Houchen, N. Reid. The clerk (Mr T. Grant) and the engineer (Mr W. G. Macky) were also present.
An apology was received and sustained on behalf of Cr S. C. Alexander.
