Railways Losses
The New Zealand railways showed an operating loss of £1,125,811 for the year ended March 31st, 1948, according to a recent Gazette notice. Total operating expenditure amounted to £15,090,091 and revenue amounted to £13,964,280, miscellaneous and subsidiary services returned a total revenue of £3,106,592 and involved an expenditure of £2,620,806 —a surplus of £485,786. The net deficit on the operation of the department, therefore, was £640,025 for the financial year. ’ L - " ■
