Useless?
Criticism of New Zealand railway carriages on other, scores are some times voiced by travellers, but added to these is. the crushing assertion by a South Island county councillor that the carriages are not even suitable as emergency dwellings. “I think a railway carriage on a property is most unsightly,” he commented, when an application for permission to use one as a temporary dwelling was being considered. On the recommendation of the Council’s w’orks committee the application was declined.
