Mr Keith Cavanagh has returned home after a tour of the South Island. Constable E. Costello, of Wellington, who will succeed Constable Findlater, who has left to take up a new appointment in Blenheim, was in Te Awamutu on Monday. Major H. H. Neeve, son of Major C. Neeve, of Te Awamutu, will be visiting Auckland with the Wellington Citadel Salvation Army Band, of which he is conductor, next week-end. Major Neeve will appear in IZB’s “Brass Bands on Parade” session on Sunday morning, and the band, considered to be an outstanding combination, will give broadcast and openair recitals while in the northern city. The Awamutu borough councillors, at the meeting on Monday night, supported the nomination of Mr C. S. Alexander as representative of local bodies on the Te Awamutu Rehabilitation Committee. Mr Alexander was nominated for this appointment by the Waipa County Council at its last meeting. The Borough Council’s supporting resolution was moved by the Mayor (Mr Spinley), and in seconding, Cr Williams said he thought Mr Alexander an excellent man to represent local bodies on the Rehabilitation Committee. Constable A. N. Findlater, accompanied by Mrs Finlater and her son Douglas, left for Blenheim on Monday night. Mr Findlater was recently appointed to Blenheim. Prior to his departure the police, together with a few official friends, met at the Police Station to bid him farewell. Sergeant Sutherland, on behalf of Mr Findlater’s comrades both in this district and in Hamilton, made a presentation to the departing constable. High tributes were paid to Mr Findlater’s many fine qualities both as a policeman and as a man. Mr Findlater suitably acknowledged the gift and the good wishes that accompanied it.
