Steel Imports “Australia is exporting steel to New Zealand to the exclusion ot all other countries,” commented the Mayor, Mr G. Spinley, at Monday’s meeting of the Te Awamutu Borough Council, in commenting on the steel supply situation. Firms endeavouring to carry out contracts under the Council’s sewerage scheme report difficulty in obtaining steel in sufficient quantity. Obtrusive Power Pole The obtrusive nature of a power pole on the comer of College and Rewi Streets resulted in it becoming the subject of brief comment at the meeting of the Borough Council on Monday night. Cr G. D. Shepherd suggested that the hazard be investigated by the Works Committee. If the pole was to be shifted it should be put back from the comer, so as to offer less danger to nervous motorists, who might at present run into the pole in negotiating a difficult bend. Arohena Roads Cr J. Jamieson reported to Monday’s meeting of the Otorohanga County Council that the settlers in the Arohena district were concerned at the unsatisfactory state of the roads, due they alleged in part to the activities of the Electrical Branch of the Works Department. They were particularly anxious in addition to having several nasty comers removed. They stated that three accidents had occurred on the roads hi question. On the motion of Crs Jamieson and Wynyard it was decided to ask the Works Department to effect repair work.
