MEN’S SOCIETY

ST. JOHN’S BRANCH ANNUAL MEETING HELD The annual meeting of the Te Awamutu branch of the Church of England Men’s Society was held on Monday night, when the Rev. Bro. John D. Hogg presided over a moderate attendance of members. The report of the chairman (Mr R. Callis) read as follows: iln presenting this, the fourth annual report of our society since its resuscitation, I regret that I can report no progress from the point of view of increased membership. The year commenced with a membership of 30 and with changes due to transfers and resignations, closed with 28. One new member was admitted. During the year eleven meetings were held, the average attendance being 14. We are indebted to Bros. J. D. Hogg and H. C. Wing for very interesting talks. Visits were received from Hamilton and Cambridge branches. Canon. C. W. Turner, of Hamilton, gave us a very interesting talk on Melanesia. The Cambridge visit took the form of a “brains trust.” Return visits were made to both of these branches, and at the Hamilton evening, two of our members, Bros. J. E. Elliott and H. Atkinson, spoke on our behalf in a debate on “That there should be religious instruction in schools,” and although the verdict went against us, they put up a very creditable performance. Our branch was represented at the Dominion conference held at Auckland, and at the Diocesan conference held at Morrinsville, a full report of both gatherings being given by the delegates.

The regular monthly food parcel has been forwarded, for distribution, to the Chief Warden of St. Martins-in-Fields, London. Two parcels were forwarded at Christmas.

In conclusion, I wish to thank our president, Bro. J. D. Hogg, for his great interest and help to our society, Bro. E, W. Williams for his untiring efforts as hon. secretary, Bro. E. Woodley for his services both as hon. treasurer and as collector of donations for, and purchaser, packer, and despatcher of food parcels, and all members of my committee for their co-operation during my year of office. Election of Officers
