Aftermath of Japanese Occupation

Quite recently the British Government Department made an inspection of the natives in the Gilbert Islands and found that 52 had contracted leprosy. Among the patients were quite a number of children. All of the sufferers were sent to the central leper settlement of Makogai in Fiji. These people had not received any help or treatment during the whole of the war and on arrival at Makogai most of them were found to be in a bad state.
