WAIPA PROVINCIAL QUARTERLY REPORT Despite inclement weather on August 7th, there was, an excellent attendance of delegates present at the Waipa Provincial quarterly meeting held in the W.D.F.F. club room, Te Awamutu. Apologies were received from Mesdames Carl, Clyde, St. George and Newman. , After repeating the creed and the reading of the prayer, the president extended a hearty welcome to 'all delegates and expressed sympathy with any who . may have suffered bereavement since the last meeting.

The secretary was instructed to write to the Hon. Miss Howard thus: “That we invite the Hon. Miss Howard, together with Dr Doris Gordon, to tour the Waikato and see for themselves the urgency there is for better maternity hospitals.” Similar letters are to be sent to Mrs Hilda Ross, M.P, and Mr Sim, M.P. It was resolved a letter be written to Mrs Downes, congratulating her on the honour she has recently had bestowed upon het, that of Dominion vice-president of the Red Cross Society. Reports: (a) Adult Education, Mrs McWhannell. (b) 0. and G. meetings, Mrs Ray. (e) Agriculture High School, Mrs McWhannell. (d) N.C.W, Mrs Hancock, (e) Housekeeping Secretary. Mrs Kirkham continues to do marvellous work in this capacity and mentioned five housekeepers had been employed for sixteen weeks. The president presented the conference report which was most comprehensive, mention being made of the altered rules and described the new office buildings which are free of debt. During the year the membership had increased by 1376, the organisation now having 39 provincials, 605 branches and a membership of 21,410. Twenty-six senior branches and one junior branch were formed during the year.

Mrs Ray reported on the remits which concerned the women and children in the country—remits dealing with health, education and general were all excellent. Mrs Kirkham reported on the conference housekeeping meetings and the rest homes. Mrs Kirkham said during the year 1946-47 the Dominion secretary stated that homes had been helped by 1744 weeks and a total of £6002 8s 8d had been paid in wages. Waipa Provincial for eight months had helped homes for 48 weeks, wages paid being £176. Remits wei;e given dealing with housekeeping work. Rest Homes. Kia-anga-moi, Te Kiteroa and Melrose —all three rest homes were different in every way, but everyone was most attractive. The number of guests in'each home during the year was:—Kia-anga-moi, 226 guests; Te Kiteroa, 213 guests; Melrose, 211 guests. Mrs McWhannell proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mrs Ray and Mrs Kirkham for their splendid , reports. Election of Advisory Members: Mrs McWhannell and Mrs Neill. Luncheon was served by Mrs McDonald (Ngaroma), and Mrs Krippner (Te Rore).

WHAREPAPA MEETING The monthly meeting of the W.D.F.F. was held in the hall on Friday, July 11th, and was well attended. Mrs Gyde presided, and welcomed three new members. After the business of the meeting had been discussed, .members displayed their competition efforts. These were garments made from one yard of wincyette. The first prize went to Mrs H. T. Fletcher for a baby’s dress, Mrs Carrol winning the second for a baby’s nightdress. Mrs Gyde won the rolling shilling. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Fletcher and Barnett. The meeting closed with roll call, when each member had to relate an amusing incident in her life.
