Glorified Office Boys
Pungent comments were made recently by two prospective immigrants who were leaving the Dominion in disillusionment on their return to Britain. Said one, a chartered accountant: “In Britain my profession opens up endless avenues, but in New Zealand an accountant is only a glorified office-boy!” Another professional man described New Zealand as a country run by the workers—who did not do it well. Strikes for no cause, and little co-operation with employers or fellow-workers, were cited by him as present-day evils in the Dominion.
