BLOOD BANK CAMPAIGN
CLOSING TEMPORARILY HAMILTON JUNIOR CHAMBER OF COMMERCE The blood bank campaign conducted in Hamilton by the Hamilton Junior Chamber of Commerce is being temporarily brought to a close owing to the fact that sufficient supplies of blood have been received for the immediate requirements of the Waikato Hospital. This measure was desirable in order that donors on the list could be called on at least once to obviate any complaint that the chamber was enrolling more donors when others already enrolled had not been called upon to donate blood, explained Mr J. Were, vice-president of the Hamilton Junior Chamber of Commerce, at a meeting of the chamber. Since the start of the bank in October, 1946, to June, 1947, 388 transfusions had been given, a fact which made the effort a really great one, said Mr Scobie, secretary qf the Hamilton St. John Ambulance Association. He expressed thanks for the enthusiastic help which had been given to the cause. There would be more need in the future for the bank as blood was being used more extensively than ever before. When the bank was first opened four donors were called upon twice weekly and in the last two months this had increased to 10 to 12 twice weekly. This increase had been shown before the peak demand had been reached. The remaining 94 would shortly be tested and these would make the supplies sufficient for the next few months. Mr Were said that the chamber was entering the project for the Alfred Eacly, Trophy, which was awarded to the best Junior Chamber project for the year. It was pleasing to note that the chamber had practically 100% member participation, he said.
