YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUB
KAKEPUKU MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Kakepuku Young Farmers’ Club wap held in Pokuru Hall recently, when Mr W. G. Neill, club chairman, presided over an attendance of 21. After the apologies were received, the inward correspondence was dealt with. Arrangements for a debate with Ngahinepouri, to take place at Te Pahu, were left in the hands of the secretary. The chairman gave a report on the final debate for the Waikato, which was won by our club against Cambridge; he also gave a brief report on the dance held by the club on the 14th August, and referred to the field day arranged by the club. Two new members were nominated. At the next meeting in October it is arranged to have the Honours Board dedicated by the Rev. L. F. Gunn, who is also boing to give a talk on his experiences overseas. Kakepuku Club Field Day
A field day was held on August 29th, at the New Zealand Co-operat-ive Dairy Company’s butter factory at Te Awamutu. Mr Ward, the manager - met the members and very ■kindly showed them everything of interest. Starting at the stage, where the cream is received, members saw it being weighed, samples taken, and graded. The party then moved on to see the pasteurising machines that took the feed flavour from the cream and from here the cream passes through coolers on its way to three large tanks, each with a capacity of 3000 gallons, where it is kept until the following day. Members then saw butter being taken from one of the three large churns capable of holding 100 boxes of butter each. The wrapping and backing of butter was a revelation to some of the members, particularly the speed at which it is done, as was also the nailing and wiring of the boxes by machinery. Mr Neill thanked Mr Ward for the time he had given and for the way he had explained! everything so clearly, and said how much the club appreciated Mr Ward’s interest in their visit, as he had made it a most interesting day. There was a good attendance of members.
