Junior National Party

The members of the National Party Junior Section have arranged an opening function to be held on Friday night next. The evening will commence with a musical programfrne and the remainder of the function will be in the form of la dance. All who are interested are very welcome and a thoroughly enjoyable time is promised to everyone, as a most enthusiastic committee has everything in train for this first big night which will be the fore-* runner of many happy and jolly gatherings. Picture Pests

The producers of the picture screened at the Empire on Saturday stole a march on those thoughtless people who make a rush for the exits when they think the final sequence is drawing to a close. Timing it in their own estimation that they will reach the doors at the fade out of the picture, the thoughtless members of the audience, without regard for others, strolled leisurely toward the exists. But the producer had fooled them—and the crowd pushing on from behind made it impossible to linger in the doorway. For once these picture pests were fooled and lost some good laughs in the final sequence of the film.

“Fly In The Ointment” Describing Saturday racing as a “fly in the ointment,” the annual report of the s Christ’s College Old Boys’ Cricket Club says that “the threat is there to kill the game of cricket.” The report continues: “Several seasons’ experience of trying to gather players to fill teams, with racing on the odd Saturdays, is a pretty heart-breaking affair. Incidentally, ours is not the only sport hard hit by these conditions, and a strong stand should be taken by all sports bodies to have the present state of affairs altered.”
