MORRINSVILLE WIN BOYCE CUP ROVERS AND PIRONGIA TO PLAY FINAL KNOCKOUT The Waipa Rugby Union’s, various l games were played on Saturday at Albert Park in nn§ but dull wbather: The Waipa junior A reps, suffered their first defeat of the season to Morrinsville, while the junior B reps, were defeated by the visiting Otahuhu fifteen. The 4th grade reps, played a draw with Marist fourths of Hamilton. In the senior knockout round Rovers and Pirongia were successful and will play thd final next Saturday. The Junior Game. Waipa swung into action soon after the start when Jaggers sent his» backs away for Horan to be tackled and then Jaggers was penalised for. taking the ball out of a scrum. Soon after Morrinsville were penalised for Heke to miss the shot at goal and Morrinsville cleared. Play went up and down the field at this stage and eventually Morrinsville were penalised for Hodgson to miss the shot at goal. Not long after Waipa went through but a knock-on spoiled a sure run away try, and then Morrinsville were penalised for Hodgson to miss again. Waipa went through again but the pass to Heke was awkward and Waipa missed scoring again. Waipa were penalised but a scrum resulted and Waipa were unlucky again as a forward pass brought them back and then Morrinsville were penalised for Murray to raise the flags. Waipa 3, Morrins-. ville ‘O. A scrum from a knock on saw Morrinsville kick to Murray who misskicked, and from a line out line Morrinsville scored for Ferguson to miss the kick. Morrinsville 3, Waipa 3. Not long after again Waipa were unlucky again in not scoring, and Morrinsville cleared to outside their 25. Waipa were penalised for offside play and from a lineout inside Morrinsville half a series of scrums resulted and not long after Firkin missed at an attempt at goal. Morrinsville were penalised twice in succession and then Morrinsville went through and were nearly across and half time sounded with the ’score 3 all. Waipa backs mishandled for Ranby to save, and then Morrinsville were penalised, for Murray to be unsuccessful. Morrinsville were going well now and Waipa forced down. From an exchange of kicks Clothier was successful with a line kick, and from a scrum Jaggers sent his backs away but Horan was forced out and Waipa forwards were fighting hard to get across and from a scrum and line out Ray Ranby sent Heke away and Murray who had come up was forced out and then Morrinsville broke away, and short-kicked for Murray to save. Play went up and down the, field at this stage and eventually Waipa were penalised for Ferguson to kick another 3 points. Morrinsville 6, Waipa 3From a line out Firkin cut in and ran through to score and Clothier added the extra points. Morrinsvijle 11, Waipa 3. Clothier lined from a kick through by Waipa and Morrinsville were penalised for Clothier to be caught and Waipa attacked again for Morrinsville to be penajised again, and from a centre kick by Horan Ron Ranby scored. Murray’s kick hit the post. Waipa 6, Morrinsville 11. Waipa were off again but Heke was forced out. Play went up and down the field now but no side gained any advantage, and the Boyce Cup changed hands with Morrinsville winning by 11 points to 6. Mr Evans was the referee. The Senior Game Te Awamutu won the toss, and Rovers defended the Park Road end of the field. From kick off Te Awamutu took play to Rover 25 and from a scrum Te Awamutu backs went into action and Thombs scored for Lawry to miss the kick. Te Awamutu 3, Rovers 0. , From line out Te Awamutu were away again, but Partridge kicked for Martin to line with a good kick, and then Rovers forced down. Not long after Rover forwards were offside for Lawry to kick a good goal. Te Awamutu 6, Rovers 0. Rovers went through and from line out Partridge sent his Lbacks away for Barton to score, but missed the kick. Rovers 3, Te Awamutu b. Te Awamutu attacked and Rovers were penalised again for Lawry to add another three points. Te Awamutu 9, Rovers 3. . Thombs went over again but was brought back for a forward Pass. Te Awamutu were penalised when K° v ' ers were attacking and Barton missed the kick. Play vfent up and down the field for a quite a while and eventually Rovers had to force down. From play inside Rovers half Rex Hinton was offside but Lawry missed the kick. Hart lined twice in succession and Te Awamutu were going great guns now and trying hard to, get through but Rovers sent them back. First Rex Hinton was penalised and then Bob Hinton was penalised tor Lawry to miss the kick again, and half time sounded with the score unchanged. After the kick off play went up and-down the field and eventually from a lineout inside Te Awamutu half E. Barton was unlucky m not scoring and then Empson kicked to have Te Awamutu in trouble. First one side tried to go through and then the other, and eventually in a return kick from a scrum Bob Hinton went across to score for Barton to add the extra points. Rovers 8, Te Awamutu 9. Rovers were off again but a forward pass spoiled a sure try. Rovers were penalised and then Rovers had a turn for Partridge to race through to score and Barton missed- the kick. Rovers 11, Te Awamutu 9. . Te Awamutu went through soon after this and from a line out on Rovers 25 Hart forced down. Rovers went to the attack and Douglas cut in and was unlucky in not scoring. Te Awamutu gradually took play to Rover territory and from a line out Marsh broke away only to be tackled by Hart when about to so over, and
then Lawry missed with a kick at goal. Te Awamutu were fighting hard but Rovers defence held and an attempt at drop kick by Hanna missed. Rovers took play into Te Awamutu territory and for obstruction Barton missed the kick at goal and the game ended with the score, Rovers 11, Te Awamutu 9. Mr T. Martin was the referee.
