SERVICES RECOGNISED

PRESENTATION TO MR J. G. WYNYARD TWENTY-FIVE YEARS FAITHFUL CHAIRMANSHIP ! A presentation of a wristlet watch | suitably inscribed was made to Mr i J. G. Wynyard in the Parish Hall , last night as a slight token of ap- ■ predation of his many services rendered to St. John’s Church, and in ; the wider sphere of Diocesan and Doi minion Church representative over a ! period covering 25 years. i There was a large and representative attendance, many' country people i being present.. I Mrs Sullivan presented Mrs Wynj yard with a beautiful -shower spray. I The Vicar Rev. M- G. Sullivan prei sided and associated with him were ■ Mr and Mrs J. G. Wynyard. ; Apologias for unavoidable absence ! were tendered on behalf of Mr H. ' Judge, Mr Howard Empson and Mrs j Graham Macky. I . Mr Sullivan, in making the pres--1 entation, said the function was of an informal nature and was intended to express to Mr Wynyard the appreciation of the people of the parish for all he had done during the past 25 years and to wish himself and Mrs Wynyard every happiness in the days of Mr Wynyard’s retirement from the church offices he had held. After referring to the many offices held by the guest, Mr Sullivan said that Mr Wynyard had brought to the discharge of the duties of those offices a sound judgement that had been most helpful. The presentation was then made. Mr Wynyard, in returning thanks, said he did not need any recognition 1 of the work he had done for the ; church, as he believed that all should do what they could for their church. If any of is efforts had resulted in benefit to the church and parish, then that was sufficient reward. Mr Wynyard then went on to recall his early church clays in Onehunga and Te Awamutu and the struggles to set the finances of the To Awamutu Parish on a sound and businesslike footing. They had difficult days in regards finance, but by sticking to the job they had overcome the difficulties. He appreciated the gift and the j kind thoughts that prompted the ; gift. The church badly wanted all ’ the help and assistance that could • be given it at the present time if it • was to be the power for *good that 1 it should be in the (unsettled world i to-day. The best they could do for I the church was not too much if the I church was to extend. Mr Wynyard i said they were all pleased to see Mr i Sullivan back again. The present ■ would be a reminder of some hard , but very happy times spent in the ; interests of the church. He thanked them sincerely for the gift and their good wishes.

Supper was then served and a pleasant hour was spent in social chat.
