TE MAWHAI NEWS
WELCOME HOME DISTRICT MEN FELICITATED The Te Mlawhai Hall on Wednesday night last was filled to capacity to welcome home the remainder of the local boys who have served overseas. The guests of the evening were FlightSergeant N. Gray, Pte J. C. Oates, Pte W. Benson and Pte W. Kemp. After supper, Mr J. Short (chairman), in a very appropriate speech, asked each of the guests to accept on behalf of the settlers and residents suitable gifts as a slight appreciation of their work overseas. Each recipient on rising to reply was roundly applauded by the large assembly, and all were accorded musical honours. Two novelty dances were won by Mr Thomas and partner, and Mr C. Calder and Mrs J. Bradley. Miss H. Alexander entertained with two muchappreciated elocutionary items. Dalton’s Orchestra supplied the dance music in their usual splendid style, and with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” and National Anthem, a very successful evening was brought to a close.
