WEDDING

COLEMAN—O’CONNOR St. Patrick’s Church, Te Awamutu, was the scene of a pretty wedding on Wednesday, 19th September, the contracting parties being Miss Beatrice Mary O’Connor' only daughter of Mr and Mrs E. O’Connor, Kihikihi Road, and Second Officer Vernon Dumphy Coleman, M.N., elder son of Mrs A. Walton and the late Mr V. Coleman, Devonport. Rev. Father Colgan performed the ceremony, and Rev. Father Ryan celebrated Nuptial Mass. The acolytes were Master Kevin O’Connor, brother of the bride, and Master Trevor Carthy; the organist was Mrs C. B. Linehan. The bride, who entered the church with her father, was charmingly attired in a gown of pearl satin cut on classical lines with fitting sleeves buttoned from shoulder to wrist. The full train was lavishly embroidered and edged with rouleaux. She wore a beautifully embroidered veil which was held in position with a coronet of orange blossom, and she carried a shower bouquet of stocks, cyclamen, sweet peas, viburnum, and maidenhair fern. She was attended by Miss Aureen McKerrow, of Auckland, and Miss Marie O’Brien, of Te Awamutu, as bridesmaids. They were attired alike in dainty frocks of white georgette over taffeta, with full skirts and sashes studded with sequins. Their headdresses were short veils attached to heart-shaped halos, also studded with sequins. They carried bouquets of pink and mauve stock, cyclamen, sweet peas, and maidenlair fern. Also in attendance were two little flower-girls, Patricia Ryan, of Te Awamutu, and Margaret Ann McLean, of Auckland, god-children of the bride and bridegroom respectively, who were prettily attired in dainty frocks of buttercup georgette over satin and headdresses similar to those of the bridesmaids. They carried baskets of stock, cyclamen, and cineraria. The bridegroom was assisted by Second Officer Don Croucher, M.N., of Wellington, as best man, and Corporal Cliff Walton, A.N.Z.A.F., of Devonport, as groomsman. During- the mass and signing of the register solos were sung by Miss Pat Brennan, of Auckland, and Mr C. B. Linehan, of Te Awamutu. To the strains of the Wedding March the bridal party left the church, and at the door little Margaret Ann McLean presented the (bride with t a Isilver horse-shoe.

Following the ceremony a reception was held in the Regent Lounge, where 150 guests were entertained. They were received by the bride’s mother, who was dressed in saxe blue marocaine with navy accessories and fox fur and a shoulder spray of pastel tonings. She was assisted by the bridegroom’s mother, who 'wore a dusky pink costume with navy accessories and fox fur and a shoulder spray. Among the toasts honoured at the reception was one proposed by the toastmaster, Mr C. B. O’Connor, to the Merchant Navy, of which service both the bridegroom and the best man are members, both having been on active service in convoys taking supplies and munitions to the troops in forward areas. Special reference was also made to the bride’s brother, Sergeant Maurice O’Connor, at present serving with the armed forces in Italy. In the evening a very happy time was spent at the home of the bride’s parents, and the newly-weds were given an extremely hearty send-off when they left on their honeymoon. The bride travelled in a suit and hat of resider green with tan accessories. The happy couple were recipients of many beautiful and valuable presents, including several substantial cheques. Mr and Mrs Coleman will make their hom e in Auckland.
