LAST NIGHT’S CENSUS
’ FIRST SINCE 1936 INCREASED FIGURES ANTICIPATED Last night heads of households spent some time, more or less according to the size of the family or household, and th e conscientiousness of the householder, filling in the census papers. Nine years have passed since last such a task was faced. Despite a good deal of criticism most of it party politics, the schedules did not contain anything of a very contentious nature. The personal schedule was particularly sim'ple, and the only question likely to take time in completing was that referring to the amount of wages earned. In that respect many executives of industries supplied tor caused to be supplied that information to their employees. The latest Year Book gives the population of the borough of Te Awamutu as being 2570 at Ist April, 1941. The area of the borough is 1162 acres approximately. The census t&ken on the night of 25th March, 1936, revealed Te Awamutu’s population as being 2224. In 1941 the population of Waipa county was 12,910, and the area was 435 square miles. In 1936 the population of Waipa county was 12,966. The result of the census taken last night will not be known for several weeks, but it is anticipated that the population figures will be in excess of 3000. That, however, is but .a guess.
