CONTROLS LIFTED
FOUR FURTHER COMMODITIES MINISTER’S STATEMENT Four further factory control notices, namely, those restricting the use of newsprint, the manufacture of gas producers, the sizes and types of glass containers, and the sale of linseed oil, have been revoked by a Gazette notice published last week. Asked to comment on these revocations, the Minister of Supply, Mr Sullivan, said that of the original 44 control notices administered by the Factory Controller only 11, including those over such critical commodities as bicycle, tyres and tubes, rubber and kapok, were still in operation and these were under constant review. The Paper Control Notice, 1941, was the last of the war emergency restrictions to remain in torce in connection with paper. It restricted the amount of newsprint which might be used for newspapers and periodicals. In addition to the four controls revoked, the Paint Control Notice, 1945, has been relaxed substantially. The control over all materials used in the manufacture of paint has now been lifted, with the exception of several acetates, which are used in the manufacture of synthetic lacquers and are still in short supply. It was hoped that even these restrictions would be lifted .shortly. The relaxation of this control would be of particular interest to motorists, who have suffered considerable inconvenience through their inability to obtain synthetic enamels for the repainting of their' motor cars during the war.’
