THE NEW SCHOOL
OPENING CEREMONY
SUB-COMMITTEE SET UP TO GO INTO MATTER'
When the question arose at Friday night’s meeting of the Primary School Committee as to when and who should open the new school in Teasdale Street, Mr J. Short suggested getting the concrete work completed first; after that had been done he thought that the Minister of Educacation should be the one to perform the ceremony. Mr Waters expressed agreement with Mr Short. Mr Wall said there was merit in a proposal made by a writer in the Courier that the Governor-General should be asked to open the school, but several other members thought that that would be flying rather high, as it was only an addition to the existing school that was to be opened.
The chairman (Mr L. S. Armstrong) thought that a sub-commit-tee should be set up to go into the question.
Mr J. Short said that if they got the grounds in order quickly it could be opened about the 20th of October.
It was decided that a sub-commit-tee, consisting of the chairman, the headmaster, and Messrs Spence and Wall, be appointed to deal with the matter.
