STOCK REMEDIES

REQUEST NOT SUPPORTED “FAULT LIES WITH THE FARMER” The subject of stock remedies was discussed in a letter read at the quarterly meeting of the Bay of Plenty Sub-Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union in Tauranga. The subject was first introduced in a remit from the Athenree branch which was approved at the previous quarterly meeting of the executive to the effect that the Dairy Board and Meat Board acquire a controlling interest in a reputable firm manufacturing stock remedies. The letter, in reply, stated that this question had been referred to Mr W. P. Begg, sub-provincial president of the Northern Wairoa executive by the provincial executive at its December meeting. Mr Begg on liaving the matter referred to him replied as follows: “I cannot support the resolution. The fault does not lie so much with the stock remedies as with the farmer who, in the majority of cases, does not know how and when to use the remedies. All stock remedies have to be registered and recommended by veterinary authority in Wellington before being put on the market. In all districts where veterinary associations are formed, farmers will naturally use their remedies, and act on the advice of their veterinary surgeon.”
