Mr A. McCalman has returned after a holiday spent at Invercargill. Mirs W. Campbell, who has been visiting Mrs E. R. Hodgson, “ Ivanhoe,” returned to her home in Wellington last night. The engagement is announced between Laurence Josiah, second son of Mr and Mrs G. Tarrant, of Kihikihi, and Mavis Irene, second daughter of Mr and Mrs H. O. Brown, of Honikiwi. Mr W. J. Mawson, director of town planning, will arrive in Te Awamutu this evening. He will meet the local Borough Council, and later leave for Wellington. Mr and Mrs J. Horan, of Palmer Street, have received cabled advice that their son, Leading Aircraftman Frank Horan, has arrived in Canada, and is fit and well. Bombardier V. Astwood, Private D. A. McLeay (Pokuru), and Driver A. M. Lyburn (Te Kawa)) arrived in Te Awamutu by hospital train this morning after having served in the Middle East. Prior to the commencement of the business, the chairman (Mr S. H. West) of the Te Awamutu District High School Committee, made sympathetic reference to the loss sustained by Mr ar.d Mrs G. Donaldson in the death of their son, Trooper lan Donaldson, who was killed in action. A motion of sympathy was carried by those present standing in silence.
