Mr Cooper, who has been milking for a number of years, has always bred his own replacements, using only top-quality Jersey bulls. This herd for the last two years has topped the Group in the Taupiri district, and the average of the herd in last year’s drought season was 325 lb fat per cow. This is a very young herd of second, third, and fourth calvers, there being 24 second calvers 30 third cavers, and 86 fourth calvers. Practically all these cows were specially selected in Taranaki as heifers by Mr W. F. Duncan for Mr Robinson. In the 1942-43 season the herd of 135 cows, including 30 heifers, produced 37,600 lb fat.
