TOKANUI NOTES

LEAGUE OF MOTHERS The Tokanui Branch of the League of Mothers held their May meeting on the 12th inst., at the residence of Mrs J. Kirkham, Ngahape. Mrs Gane presided over a good attendance of members. The meeting opened with the singing of the Mothers’ Hymn, followed by the League prayer and prayer for peace. Members then stood in silence as a mark of respect to two members who had suffered a bereavement since last meeting. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was dealt with and apologies received. A question and answer time brought forth much and varied discussion and proved most interesting. A competition, Christmas pudding ingredients, was won by Mrs C. Howcroft. Two solos nicely rendered by Miss Colleen Watson, of Hamilton, were enjoyed by all. It was announced by the sident that the object the League had been working for in the past.year was now completed, namely, a soldier’s bed with name plate, mattress, and full equipment of pillows, blankets, linen and locker, and donated to Waikato Hospital. The thought for the month was given by Mrs Kirkham. A well laden bring and buy table in charge of Mesdames Watson and Williams did good business. Afternoon tea midst a happy social time closed a very enjoyable and successful meeting. The June meeting is to be held at the residence of Mrs L. Gane.
