Mrs E. G. Clark, accompanied by her son, is spending a holiday in Gisborne.
Word has been received by Mr and Mrs R. McLean, Raeburn Street, that their son, Ordinary Seaman Alister McLean, has arrived in South Africa, and is fit and well.
Lieutenant Charles McCurdie and Mrs McCurdie, who have been spending a honeymoon tour in the South Island, are guests of Mr and Mrs L. S. Armstrong, Puniu Road.
The residence of Mr Bishop was the scene of a pleasant little gathering on Monday night, the purpose being to wish # Mr William Bishop, junior, all the best on joining the Royal New Zealand Air Force. The health of the guest was heartily toasted and a most pleasant evening spent.
The second son of Mrs C. Aubin, of Kawhia, Lance-Sergeant R. SAubin, is reported as having died from wounds. Shortly before enlisting in 1940 and leaving for overseas in an armoured unit, Lance-Sergeant Aubin was one of two Kawhia residents who received the bronze medallion of the Royal Humane Society for rescuing a launch party whose boat had been swept on to the Kawhia bar in extremely rough weather.
