THE SHOOTING SEASON
PROSPECTS GOOD CARTRIDGE'S IN SHORT SUPPLY The shooting season opens on Saturday, and from inquiries made of the local representatives of the Acclimatisation Society there are excellent prospects of a good season. More birds have been seen than has been the case for some years past. The fly in the ointment, however, is the fact that ammunition is in very short supply. There is not enough to meet the needs of license holders -who have increased by approximately 50 per cent. Every endeavour is being made to overcome that shortage, and Wellington has been communicated With in an endeavour to get more ammunition. A farmer over the week-end contacted a Courier representative, and expressed resentment at the fact that farmers will not be able to get an inincrease of ammunition. The Acclimatisation Societies have recognised the validity of those claims, and hare made persistent representations to the Minister of Internal Affairs who controls ’the situation, but without effect. Even the Rabbit Boards have been refused ammunition. Those who, however, have even a restricted supply of cartridges are looking forward to some good sport.
