SCHOOL SPORTS
CONTESTS AT TE KUITI With teams from Otorohanga, Ohakune, Ohura, Pio Pio, Taumarunui, Te Awamutu, and Te Kuiti competing, and 300 in all participating, the King Country school sports held at Te Kuiti on Wednesday last were the most successful of their kind ever to be held in the King Country (says the Chronicle). An exceptionally high standard of sportsmanship was attained, and nine records were broken. Ohura School, new-comers to the Association, were responsible for four, Taumarunui two, Te Awamutu one. Te Kuiti one, and Otorohanga one. The ideal weather conditions also enhanced the enjoyment of the day’s proceedings.
K. Kerry, the senior athlete from Ohura, who gained the record for the broad jump and the hop, step, and jump, was presented with the Major Miles Cup, a coveted trophy which is earned by the senior boy gaining the greatest number of points. Te Awamutu and Taumarunui were again successful in winning the points cups.
A spectacular display of marching, with each school displaying its own colours, brought the day’s sport to a conclusion.
