Patriotic Dance

The usual fortnightly dance under the direction of the Te Awamutu Patriotic Committee, was held in the Town Hall, on Saturday night and was well attended. Excellent music was provided by O’Brien’s orchestra, and Mr Les. Armstrong was M.C. Memorial Unveiled The ceremony of unveiling the memorial to the late Rt. Hon. Micheal Joseph Savage, first Labour Prime Minister, and officially opening the Garden of Remembrance at Bastion Point, was carried out yesterday, after noon in perfect weather. A large crowd assembled, including Maoris representative of every tribe,in New Zealand.

Lone Passenger Alights While many people awaited the arrival of a south-bound express al the Te Awamutu railway station lasi night a special train drew in and came to a stand still to deposit a lone passenger who had visited Auckland to take part in the ceremonial unveiling of the memorial to the late Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, earlier in the day It was a special train, and, indeed, many of the bystanders had never before seen one like it for it consisted wholly of sleeping carriages and, presumably its human freight consisted entirely of “guest” passengers. Such a special train at a time of rationing for the nation’s war effort in the direction of conserving materials and manpower naturally occasioned both surprise and comment.
