PRISONERS’ PARCELS
INCORRECT ADDRESSES Proof that sufficient care is still not taken in addressing parcels to prisoners of war is shown in a cable just received by the Prisoners of War Inquiry Office from the International Red Cross, which states th§.‘ v large numbers of letters to New Zealand prisoners of war are involved in considerable delay through this fault. The office says that it is important that instructions as set out in the official brochure should be carefully followed. Camp Stalag XVIII B was closed in January and the addresses of all prisoners who were there should be changed to Stalag XVIII A. Copies of letters from men interned to Camps Stalag VIII B and Oflag 111 C are still urgently required by the Prisoners of War Inquiry Office. The total number of parcels dispatched from Britain to camps in Germany and Italy in the four weeks from mid-October was 635,000 food parcels, approximately 30,000 invalid comfort parcels, 19,500 tobacco parcels and food in bulk estimated to an equivalent of 75,000 parcels. Special khaki wool for prisoners of war is still available to next-of-kin on\ presentation of the special wool coupon card issued by the Inquiry Office.
