“MUCK-RAKE” SESSION

CRITICISM TO BROADCAST Describing is as “practically offensive to people who were not partymihded,” the chairman, Mr L. Boilings, strongly criticised Sunday’s broadcast of the “Man with the MuckRake” session, at last Monday’s meeting of the- executive of the Consumers’ League, Christchurch.

“Broadcasts such as these are aimed at trying to prevent people from expressing an honest opinion at what they know is occurring in the exploitation of foodstuffs,”- he said. “The exploitation of foodstuffs obviously needs remedying; and it would appear that the Government is preventing people from making any criticism.” The chairman’s remarks were endorted by the meeting, and it was

decided to protest against the use of the Commercial Broadcasting system for the purposes of such a session. • The text of the resolution was as follows:

“That a complaint be sent to the Minister responsible for the Commercial Broadcasting Service (the Hon D. Wilson) that such broadcasts should not, in future, be used to decry those whose only desire is to prevent the exploitation of the people’s food; and that this meeting contends that such propaganda methods as evidenced in the ‘Man With the Muck-rake’ session should surely fie condemn#! by the Mfnister responsible.” The meeting also decided to forward a letter of protest to the Prime Minister concerning the statements made by Mr J. Thorn, M-P., about the various women’s organisations who held a meeting ait Lower Hutt recently, regarding food supplies. “We -also object to the Prime Minister’s insulting interjections ‘that these people were fidlf Communist and half Tory.’ ” the resolution added.
