PUKEATUA NOTES On the evening of Tuesday last Miss Rosalie Fletcher, only daughter of Mrs Fletcher and the late Mr N. B. Fletcher, of Pukeatua, was tendered a complimentary dance and gift evening in of her approaching marriage., Miss Fletcher has, in recent years, been on the nursing staff of the Rotorua Hospital, but prior to that was resident in Pukeatua. where' she was held in high esteem by all sections of the community, as was evidenced by the very representative gathering held in her honour last Tuesday evening. Dancing passed the time pleasantly, and after a very enjoyable supper, for which these functions are noted, Mr Holmes, master of ceremonies, conducted the guest of the evening to the stage, where Mr Dagg, an old friend of the Fletcher family, presented her with the large and varied collection of gift parcels assembled. Miss Fletcher expressed sincere thanks, after which she was accorded musical honours. Dancing was then resumed, during which time the parcels were opened and the contents displayed for inspection. The singing of “ Auld Lang Syne ” concluded a very happy evening. The very fine community spirit prevailing in Pukeatua is never more in evidence than at these gift evenings, tendered to all the local young ladies prior to their weddings, when almost every household is represented in person as well as bv a goodwill gift, and needless to say Pukeatua girls commence house-keeping under very favourable conditions. PIRONGTA NOTES The weekly card evening in aid of the Red Cross funds was held in the Pirongia Hall on Tuesday last, when prizes donated by Mrs Allport were won by Mrs Rastrick and Mr W. Bell. Supper was supplied by Mrs Bell. Mr and Mrs John McGruther, Kawhia Road, are spending a few days at Rotorua.

Private Peter Bell, who has been home on leave, has returned to camp. Mrs H. Burgess has returned to Pirongia from a holiday spent up north.
