COMPLIMENTARY SOCIAL
TO HAIRINI SOLDIER
A large gathering of Hairini residents assembled in the local hall on Saturday night when a complimentary social was tendered to Gunner Norman Hansen. A pleasant evening was spent in dancing interspersed with items.
Recitations, hutnorous and serious were given by Mr Garth Cullen and songs by Mrs Vai Collison. Mrs T. W. Dibble was the accompanist. Dance music was provided by Miss E. Palmer, Mr Cullen playing an extra waltz. The M. C. was Mr A. B. White.
In an appropriate speech Mr S. N. Verity, on behalf of the residents, wished the guest of honour all future well-being and asked him to accept a leather writing case as a token of his friends cordial good wishes. Gunner Hansen acknowledged the compliment paid him in a brief and humorous reply. A delicious supper was served and the national anthem at midnight brought the function to a close.
