WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MEETING AT KAIPAKI The September meeting of the Kaipaki Women’s Institute was held in the hall. There was a good gathering of members, and many visitors, including members of the Church Guild, who had been invited to join with the institute’s farewell function to Mrs A. E. McDonald, who is shortly leaving the district. The president (Mrs A. Goodwin) spoke of the good work Mrs McDonald ■ had done in the district, especially in connection with the institute and guild. In presenting her with a floral tribute from the institute and a wall mirror from the guild, the president wished Mrs McDonald every happiness in the future. Mrs Goodwin asked the members to stand in silence in sympatmy with Mrs McEldowney. The president reported on the splendid amount of knitting and sewing which had been handed in for the-first half year’s patriotic effort. The roll call, “A book and its author,” was well answered. Mrs D. Steenson was responsible for the motto “He who hesitates is lost.” A further quantity of soldiers’ parcels were packed, and members were asked to donate a handkerchief each for Hamilton parcels. A written competition was won by Miss Wycherley. The results of other competitions were: A floral horseshoe, Mrs F. Boyd; a child’s matinee coat from old woollen or flannel material, Mrs Kite 1, Mrs W. Cunningham 2. The sales table did good business, Mrs A. M. Fisher being in charge. The hostesses were Mrs D. Mitchell and Miss Jean Scott.
