Mrs P. Stephens is spending a short holiday in Hastings.

Miss Nancy Brabiner and Miss Betty Nicholas spent the week-end in Auckland.

Mr Neil G- Moffatt, of the clerical staff of Te Awamutu Co-operative Dairy Company Limited, has been appointed secretary of Kaikohe Co-op-erative Dairy Company Limited, and has left to take up his new duties.

Mr and Mrs R. B. Kinnon, of Seacliff, Dunedin, and formerly of Kihikihi, are at present revisiting the district renewing many old friendships and are the guests of Mr and Mrs J. Barclay. They are accompanied by their daughter Ruby.

Mr A- J- Sinclair leaves for Wellington to-morrow night to attend a conference of the Dairy Industry Council concerning'the new developments jn the industry as a result of the British Government’s cable asking for an increased production of butter.

Mr Henri Penn, the pianist, of Melbourne, was in Hamilton last week and left for Auckland. He will return on July 13 to commence practical examinations for the Trinity College of Music, London, among candidates in outlying districts.

The Rev. Father W. Sheely, who was parish priest at Cambridge before leaving for overseas, has been mentioned in the latest Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force despatches. He was one of the first Catholic chaplains appointed in New Zealand.

Flight-Lieutenant W. Ainsworth, S.M., a Roman Catholic priest who is doing spiritual work among Catholic airmen, is provided with a car by the National Patriotic Fund Board. As he is a competent pilot, Father Ainsworth is able to obtain authority to use R.N.Z.A.F. machines, in which to visit periodically various widelyseparated training and operational stations.

At a meeting of the Te Awamutu District High School Committee on Friday evening it was decided to forward a letter of thanks to Mr C. W. Old, formerly of Ngahape, and now of Bombay, for the services he rendered during the two years while he represented Tokanui on the committee. It is expected that the matter of a new member will be settled at a forthcoming meeting of Tokanui par* ents.

Second-Lieutenant J. F. Bevin, New Zealand Artillery, is promoted lieutenant, dating from 15th January, 1942. Lieutenant Bevin, now a prisoner o< war, received his education in Te Awamutu, where his father (now of Picton) was manager of the Bank of New Zealand. Second-lieutenants in the Waikato Regiment, New Zealand Military Forces, promoted to bo lieutenants (temporary), as from March last include Lieutenant J. A. Brcokes, son of Mr A. C. Brookes, a former Te Awamutu resident.

On Saturday evening the staffs of The Regent and Empire Theatres joined in bidding farewell to Mr W. P. Tombs, who is shortly leaving for a military camp. Mr S. Clark, in presenting Mr Tombs with a fountain pen, smoker’s outfit, money belt and hold-all, said that in one way it was a sad occasion for those present, as they had come to bid farewell—even if only for a short time—to a popular manager. The occasion also gave him great pleasure, as it showed that Mr Tombs was held in high regard by all members of his staff. The speaker hoped that it would not be long before Mr Tombs was back again, and on behalf of all he wished him the best of luck and a safe return. Mr Tombs thanked all for their help and assistance in the past. '
