THE RED CROSS SOCIETY

QUARTERLY MEETING HELD The quarterly meeting of the Red Cross was held in the depot on Thursday last, when there was quite a good attendance of both committee and members. A most satisfactory balance-sheet was read, and excellent reports were presented from the following country centres: Pokuru, Korakonui, Te Rore, Paterangi. Parawera, Hairini, Toka-nui-Cross Roads, Puahue, Frontier Road, Pirongia, and Kihikihi. The conveners of town circles—wool, sewing, home nursing, depot, social, cards, and literature—also reported good results. The president, Mrs Downes, welcomed Mrs Godfree, the new president of the Women’s Division, to the Committee, and spoke of the need for the co-operation of all such organisations at this time. The resignation of Miss Betty Dunn as secretary was received with regret, and thanks were expressed for her help in the past. It was reported that a demonstration of spinning had been given, and there was to be more in the future. Members were asked to note this fact, and to get others interested in the work. A spinning wheel had been bought for the use of the Red Cross, the money for this having been generously given by several Red Cross members.
