VICAR’S CRITICISM Criticism of national days of prayer being Turned into public parades was contained in the report of the Rev C. W. Chandler, Vicar of Cambridge, to the annual meeting of parishioners. “A public parade is quite contrary to the intention of His Majesty in asking for these occasional observances,” he said. “The House of Prayer is the place where prayers should be said, and parishioners should come to their parish church on these occasions. The public parade gives many the opportunity to evade their responsibility to the Church.

“A far more pleasing sight than a uniformed parade on a public square,” concluded Mr Chandler, “would be the same people, in a spirit of real humility, going to their respective churches for a quiet and unostentatious service of prayer and praise.” PRESBYTERIAN BIBLE CLASS Sunday last was the Presbyterian Bible Class Day of Prayer. At 7.30 a.m. the Rev L. F. Gunn conducted a short devotional service, which was well attended. A Bible class tea, arranged by the Intermediate Girls’ Class, was held in the Hall at 5.30 p.m. At the youth service in the evening the Bible Class choir, which had been trained by Mr E. W. Bell, sang the carol, “Silent Night.” The Scripture reading was read by Master Robert Duncan. The Rev L. F. Gunn’s challenging address was entitled “A Life or a Living.” Following the address, Miss Margaret Knight sang “Just for To-day.”
