NEW BUILDINGS
ISSUE OF BOROUGH PERMIT COMPLICATION OCCURS At the fortnightly meeting of the Te Awamutu Borough Council on Monday evening, a discussion arose concerning the grant of a permit to erect office extensions in wood by the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Ltd., to premises in Market Street. The Town Clerk traversed the circumstances as revealed by correspondence. The Council had expressed its willingness to grant the permit, but as no fees had been paid the permit had not been actually issued. The position had now become comnlicated by the requirements of the Building Controller and the point in question was whether or not the Council could now issue a permit. . No instructions had been issued by the Controller debarring the issue of permits by the Council, and it had been said that so long as cement is not used there will be no restriction by the controller. On the other hand, it had been said that no buildings of any sort would be allowed to proceed when the Building Controller came to authorise the use of necessary materials. It was decided that the Town Clerk should issue the building permit if applied for by the Dairy Company. It would then be the Company’s own affair whether or not it could get the materials under a permit from the Building Controller.
