BIRTHDAY PARTY

MISS BETTY COWLEY The residence of Mr and Mrs Mark Cowley, Pirongia Road, was the scene of a very enjoyable birthday party, the guest-of-honour being Miss Betty Cowley, daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Cowley. About 100 guests were present, including some from Te Aroha and Te Awamutu, and many telegrams were received from those ralatives and friends who were unable to be present. The toast of Miss Cowley was proposed by Mr T. Cowley, and replied to by her father, and she cut the beautiful birthday cake, which was made by her aunt, Mrs T. Cowley. The toast of the grandparents was replied to by Mr Fred Pickford, who said he was pleased to see such a large gathering of old friends to do honour to the occasion.

After the cutting of the cake, the guest-of-honopr opened the many beautiful presents, and thanked those present in a few well-chosen words. Music was provided by Miss Cowley’s uncle and aunt, Mr and Mrs Jack Pickford, on the piano and saxophone, and dancing was held in her grandparents’ house. Refreshments were served in a large marquee, and the festivities continued until a late hour.
