LONDON QUALIFIED OPTICIAN LAWRENCE ANDREWS, F.S.M.C., F-1.0. (London), VISITS TE AWAMUTU on alternate Thursdays. Appointments at Jeffery’s Pharmacy, Telephone No. 17. NEXT VISIT: THURSDAY, 2nd APRIL, 1942.

At the request of the Minister of Justice, the Hon. H. G. R. Mason, Colonel E. H. Northcroft is being released from the command of the Christchurch fortress area. This is necessary because the duties of the Command have become so expanded as to require full-time service. This situation was not contemplated when the Minister consented to Mr Justice Northcroft’s making his experience as an artillery officer available to the defence authorities. Petrol coupon No. 14 will be made available for April. This decision was made by the War Cabinet on Monday and was announced by the Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan. He said this decision was to enable all car owners to keep their vehicles mobile. Should circumstances permit, coupon 13 would probably be issued in May so that people who had already redeemed No. 13 should conserve their ration under coupon 14 as in all probability it would have to suffice them for two months, and it was desirable that cars should be given a short run each month if possible. These arrangements were, the Minister added, subject to the position in the Pacific and were liable to amendment at any time.
