A recent cable message giving details of successful sweeps by Royal Air Force fighter squadrons over the English Channel stated that two enemy machines were destroyed by the famous Irish pilot “ Paddy ” Finucane, bringing the total number of aircraft destroyed by him to 29. One of the most outstanding fighter pilots of the war, 22-year-old SquadronLeader Brendan (“ Paddy ”) Finucane set himself the task of destroying 21 enemy aircraft before reaching his twenty-first birthday. He not only reached his goal, but in doing so won the Distinguished Flying Cross three times and qjps awarded the Distinguished Service Order on his twentyfirst birthday. At the time Finucane was .in hitepital recovering from a foot injurv caused during the black-out. He has only recently rejoined his squadron.
