TERRITORIAL FORCE
NEXT BALLOT ON APRIL 28 EIGHTEEN THOUSAND MEN TO BE CALLED UP The Minister of National Service, the Hon. R. Semple, stated that the War Cabinet has approved at Wellington on Monday, further classes of married men being called for service with the territorial force. “The classes on this occasion,” said Mr Semple, “are as follows: “(1) Married men with children who have attained the age of 29, but not the age of 32. “(2) All men who since the last ballot have become members of those classes which have already been called up for military service; namely, first division reservists and married men without children who have attained the age of 18 but not the age of 46 and married men who have attained the age of 18 and who have not attained the age of 29 (with children). “In addition to those classes all naturalised British subjects who have registered and who are included in any of the classes referred to above, will also be called up in this Gazette. “Approximately 18,000 will be included in this ballot and the Gazette will be issued on April 28. “One of the main reasons for the calling up of further classes of men for service is to establish a pool of men who have been medically examined, appeals disposed of and who are available at any time for posting to the territorial force. “It is expected, however, that the majority of men called up in this ballot will be required to undertake territorial service in the near future.”
