PATRIOTIC EFFORT

CHARMING GARDEN PARTY . SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION On Wednesday afternoon last, at the home of Mr and Mrs H. A. Burchell, in College Street, a garden party was held in aid of patriotic funds. In the beautiful garden, which presented a charming picture in the afternoon sunshine, Mrs Allan Kay supervised games and competitions, while under the shady trees a Bring and Buy Stall, under the control of Mesdames Mexted and M. Friedlander, carried on a brisk business. Many children were present, and revelled in the intriguing pathways and in chasing each other in and out among the beds of tall flowers. The Committee members provided a delicious afternoon tea, which was served on the verandah by Mesdames G. Bridge, H. T. Haselden, J. Tolich, and W. J. Tucker, assisted by Mrs Burchell. Games and competitions resulted in Mrs N. F. Goodall winning the croquet, Miss T. O’Connor the golf, and Mrs C. W. Morey the cake. Among those present were Mesdames F. Kerr, N. F. Goodall, Pat Stephens, Allan Kay, K. Bowden, M. Friedlander, H. Boryer, J. Tolich, M. Bluck, J. C. Montefiore, D. McArthur, A. R. Hill, C. G. Downes, B. Malone, A. Watson, H. C. Date, F. H. Moore, E. V. Willers, L. Greenwood, N. Delaney, J. Bent, E. W. White, J. A. Wilson, Crow, H. J. Boryer, E. Hopping, F. I. Miller, D. Clark, C. W. Morey, D. Bockett, Stewart, Harper, A. Freeman, W. F.
