LIVE STOCK MARKET TE AWAMUTU SALE RECORD YARDING OF SHEEP A record yarding of over 13,000 sheep, filling the Te Awamutu yards to capacity, was penned when Newton King Ltd., and Wright Stephenson and Co. Ltd., held their opening sale of the year at the Te Awamutu saleyards on Monday last. The offering comprised some 6000 lambs and 7000 ewes and, while one of the best lamb sales of the season resulted, ewes were somewhat slow of sale and, although a large number were sold, values were slightly lower than vendors’ expectations. In addition some 200 head of cattle were penned. A good solid sale resulted in practically 100 per cent? clearance. A feature of the lamb sale was the strong demand shown for the large offering of ewe lambs, best woolly ewe lambs selling to 21s, with best shorn ewe lambs realising from 17s lOd to 18s 9d, medium ewe lambs 14s to 15s 3d, cull ewe lambs 10s to Ils 6d. Best shorn wether lambs sold to 16s 9d, others 15s to 16s 3d, medium shorn wether lambs 13s 9d to 14s 6d, cull wether lambs 9s to Ils. Woolly b.f. lambs sold to 15s 6d, others 14s to 14s 7d, small b.f. lambs 9s 9d to 11s 3d. Two-tooth ewes were in strongest demand in the ewe section. The specially advertised line of 450 2-tooth ewes, offered on behalf of Messrs H. and S. Rhodes, Paterangi, realised 30s. Other sales of 2-tooth ewes included a line at 29s 6d, other 2-tooth ewes selling from 26s lOd to 28s 6d. A large offering of five-year ewes sold to 18s 2d other five-year ewes selling selling from 16s 6d to 17s 6d, with s.m. ewes 11s to 13s. In the cattle section, Hereford cows with calves at foot, sold to £5 13s, 20months P.A. heifers selling to £4 Bs, with 20-months Hereford heifers to £3 18s, best fat Jersey cows sold to £5 6s, others £5 to £5 ss, forward cows £4 to £4 15s, store cows £3 to £3 15s. A large crowd was in attendance at the sale and competition was strong and well sustained throughout. SALE AT FRANKTON Messrs Dalgety and Company report on their weekly sale held at Frankton yesterday, as follows : Sheep: There was a medium entry of fat sheep, and although little interest was shown, prices differed little from last week. Prime fat wethers £1 3s to £1 4s, medium ditto £1 2s 9d, lighter ditto 17s 6d to £1 Is, maiden fat ewes 18s to £1 0s 9d, fat ewes 8s 6d to 15s, prime fat lambs 22s 6d to 245, medium ditto £1 to 22s 3d, others 18s to £l. Cattle : There was a short yarding of ox and a medium yarding of cow and heifer beef. Ox sold well and cow and heifer beef at rates well up to recent quotations. Boners and store cattle were usual numbers and sold well. We quote:—Light fat bullocks £lO 3s to £ll Is, medium ditto cows £7 5s to £8 10s, medium fat Jersey cows £5 5s to £6 ss, heavy boners £3 2s 6d to £3 19s, medium ditto £2 12s to £3, lighter ditto 30s to £2 2s.

Pigs.—A good yarding of fat pigs came forward with a medium yarding of stores. Fat pigs sold very freely at full late market rates, while stores were slow of sale. We quote: Prime top weight baconers £4 3s, prime heavy ditto £4 to £4 2s, heavy baconers £3 15s to £4, medium £3 8s to £3 15s, light £3 to £3 Bs, heavy porkers £2 12s to £3, medium £2 6s to £2 12s, light £2 to £2 6s, unfinished 30s to £2, best store pigs 22s to 30s, others 16s to 225, slips 8s to 16s, weaners 4s to Bs, choppers 30s to £3. OPARAU EWE FAIR RANGE OF PRICES Messrs Dalgety and Company, Ltd., report on their annual ewe fair at Oparau, held on Monday last, as under : A good yarding of ewes came forward to a fair bench of buyers and, considering the unsettled outlook at the present time, quite a fair sale resulted. The sheep came forward in good order and, although a few clients reserved their offering, practically all sold under the hammer. Following are the prices realised:— Fair medium quality 2-tooth ewes 25s 6d to 26s 2d, others 24s to 24s 9d, small 23s to 23s 6d, mixed ages 2 and 4-tooth ewes to 24s 6d, mixed aged ewes 16s 4d to 18s 9d, 4 and 5-year ewes 15s 9d to 16s 4d, 5-year ewes 14s 6d to 15s 3d, others 12s 6d to 13s 9d, 5 and 6-year ewes 10s to Ils 6d, aged ewes 5s to 7s 6d, Southdown rams 3gns., aged S.D. rams Ign to ligns., 1-shear Romney rams 4gns., aged Romney rams 1 to Ibgns., small ewe lambs 10s 4d. KAUROA EWE FAIR Messrs Dalgety and Company report on their annual ewe fair held at Kauroa, as under: —A heavy yarding of breeding ewes came forward, including several nice lines of early shorn 2-tooth ewes, and although the sale opened quietly, it brightened up in places and a fair sale resulted, although prices were not up to vendors’ expectations, consequently the sale dragged, but a complete clearance was effected. The ewes came forward in good order and a fair bench of buyers were present. Mr Fenwick topped the sale of 2-tooth ewes with a nice line of 123, which realised 345, while Mr W. S. Phillips topped the 5-year ewes at 18s 4d, good 2-tooth ewes 31s 8d to 345, others 26s to 28s, small 23s to 255, good aged marked 5-year ewes 17s to 18s 4d, 4 and 5year ewes 16s to 17s 6d, lighter conditioned 4 and 5-year ewes 14s 6d to 115 s, mixed aged ewes 12s to 13s 6d, I aged ewes 5s to 7s 6d, fat ewes 8s | 6d to 10s Id, store lambs 10s to 12s 6d, small ewe lambs Ils to 12s 6d.
