CENSUS OF COWS
ON. THURSDAY NIGHT NEXT INFORMATION SOUGHT The New Zealand Dairy Board has requested all dairy companies to take another census of cows this year, and this will be done on the evening of Thursday of this week. Cards have now been sent out by the Te Awamutu Co-operative Dairy Company for filling in on Thursday evening, and it is particularly desired that they be returned, attached to the cream can, on Friday morning. Last year the Company received a 98 per -uit response from its suppliers within two days, but this year the secretary-manager (Mr A. J. Sinclair} naturally desires a 100 per cent return and requests the co-operation of suppliers with that end in view. The following result of the census taken at the Te Awamutu Company’s factory on 15th January, 1941, will be of interest: — Number of suppliers 505 Number of cows in milk on 15th January, 1941 21,862 Average butter-fat production per cow, lbs 235.7 The census taken over the whole of the Dominion showed the following result:— Average B’fat Production per Cow, lbs. North Island 235.0 South Island 208.8 Dominion average 232.7 This information is of the greatest value to the industry.
