INTERCESSION

YESTERDAY’S SERVICE. The series of Intercessory Services was continued in the Town Hall yesterday. Owing to the weather conditions there were not quite the average number present. So far in this series there have been thirteen meetings held, with an average attendance of eighty-five. This is considered encouraging, but the Committee responsible urges the Christian community to give their whole-hearted support to the movement. It is, in the opinion of the Commit tee, a matter of the gravest importance that our nation should be upheld at the Throne of God, and the help of the Almighty should be constantly invoked for guidance, deliverance, and a speedy victory. The Committee is composed of the following The Rev. M. G. Sullivan (chairman), H. Spencer, J. Pattison, D. C. Mclntyre, M. Calder, and Forde Carlisle (secretary the Salvation Army officers, and Messrs A. H. Laybourn and B. McGechie. A splendid spirit of co-operation is evidenced at the Committee meetings and services. The Committee desires to extend its thanks to His Worship the Mayor (Mr L. G. Armstrong) and the deputy Mayor (Mr F. Parsons) for their ready assistance in carrying out the service programme each week, and also to Mrs M. G- Sullivan for officiating at the piano.

At the meeting yesterday the Mayor occupied the chair, and the deputy Mayor read the Lesson (Psalms 121 and 126). The Rev. Mr Mclntyre led in prayer for those in authority, the Rev. Mr Calder for the Forces, the Rev. Mr Carlisle for the doctors, nurses, and chaplains, and Mr McGechie for the mourners and oppressed peoples. The hymns, “ Sun of My Soul ” and “ Lead, Kindly Light,” were sung.
