OBITUARY

MRS CATHERINE CLELAND. The death has occurred at the age of 91 years of Mrs Catharine Cleland, of Kaponga, Taranaki. Mrs Cleland was bom at Lower Hutt, her parents, Mr and Mrs Burt, being pioneer settlers there. Nearlv fifty years an Mrs Cleland, with her husband and family, moved to Kapongo. Mr Cleland died a year or two later. Mrs Cleland and her young sons continued farming, although several of sons later went on to farms elsewhere in the North Island. Mrs Cleland was on a visit to her son, Mr H. W. Cleland, of Gordonton. when her death occurred. Another son, Mr Norman Cleland, died about years ago, and surviving members of the family are Messrs Harold Cleland (Gordonton), Hugh Cleland (Stratford), Thomas Cleland (Te Uku), Frederick Cleland (Otorohanga), Bernard Cleland (Kaponga), and Arthur Cleland (Stratford) and Mrs D. B. Hill (Taranaki) and Mrs J. Lewis (Dargaville).
