The Postmaster-General, Mi' Webb, stated yesterday that 311,641 motor vehicles had been licensed for the current year up to March 31 last, this total being only 3879 (or 1.22 per cent.) less than at the corresponding date in 1940.

More than 200 girls have already completed part of their training and are ready to go on to more highly skilled branches of their work, states a report just issued by the Wellington transport section of the Women’s War Service Auxiliary. All of the groups in the section must take First Aid, A.A. lectures, and physical drill as part of their training course. Foi the transport girls there are classes in mechanics and practical work must be learnt. They must have ordinary and heavy traffic driving licenses, and many other qualifications. Signallers’ and Cyclists’ courses include a sound knowledge of map-reading, general information, rules of the road, and so on.
