HARVEST FESTIVALS
PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH,. St. Andrew’s Church was beautifully decorated on Sunday last, the occasion being the annual Harvest Thanksgiving services. ' Gifts of flowers, fruit and vegetables, as well as a large assortment of groceries were very plentiful, and the Presbyterian Orphanage in Auckland, to which the gifts, as well as donations of cash have been sent, should benefit considerably. The services, both morning and evening were conducted by Rev. J. C Young, 8.A., and special anthems were rendered by the choir. In the morning “Praise the Lord, Oh, Jerusalem”, and in the evening “While the earth remaineth”, and “Praise the Lord, Y’e heavens adore Him”.
METHODIST CHURCH. The Methodist Church was beautifully decorated with gifts from parishioners and friends, of flowers, fruit and vegetables, the occasion being the annual Hardest Thanksgiving service held on Sunday -last. Rev R. Thornley, M.A., of Cambridge, conducted the morning service at which the choir rendered the anthem “Thy barn shall be filled with plenty” while Molly Parkinson sang a solo.
The evening service was conducted by Rev. A. Everill Orr, of Auckland Central Mission. During the service Rev. Orr, who has a particularly fine voice rendered the solos. “Thanks be to God” and “The Stranger of Galilee”, while the choir sang the anthem, “He watereth the Hills.” Prior to the commencement of the evening service, Mr W. A. Woodward, of Auckland, conducted a short song service which was very much appreciated by the large congregation present.
