STRIKE SETTLED

AT RAILWAY WORKSHOPS. “AS YOU WERE.” The railway strike at Woburn (Hutt) workshops has been settled, according to an announcement by the Minister of Railways, the Hon. R Semple, on the following Government terms: The Government accepts the statement that the national executive of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants and the national executive of the New Zealand Railway Tradesmen’s Association regret any action of their members carried out in unconstitutional manner. “The Government further decided to permit the Hutt workshops employees to resume duty under conditions existing prior to their refusal to work on Saturday mornings,” said Mr Semple. The men concerned are expected to resume before Monday, March 17 (i.e. to-day). Any member not commencing before that date, except in the case of illness, will be considered being absent without leave, and his name will be written off the books accordingly.”
