RUBBER GOODS

SUPPLIES FROM THE EMPIRE. A PLEA FOR TOLERANCE. The difficulty being experienced in obtaining supplies from overseas is well illustrated in a letter which a Te Awamutu trader has received from an Auckland firm dealing in rubber goods. The letter say/j:—

“'lt is with regret that we find it necessary to Write you advising the difficulties under which we are endeavouring to service the requirements of the cycle trade.

“ The facts are that, through no fault of our own, we have been out of production of tyres for about three weeks, due entirely to non-arrival of cycle cord. Although we took every precaution and divided our very large orders for cotton cord among three of the Empire’s largest suppliers, we have not received the promised shipments for various reasons.

“We have supplies on the water near at hand, and hope to be in production again in the immediate future.

“We appreciate your own worries and trust you will reciprocate the feeling, because it is little short of heart-breaking to see costly plant lying idle when there is a real shortage. ‘ In again appealing for your tolerance we fell that we must both recog. nise that the nation is at war—a war that is being fought for our very survival. Therefore, if Great Britain sometimes has to let us down, she at least deserves our understanding and patience.”
