GARDEN PARTY

CATHOLIC WOMEN’S LEAGUE. SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. A very successful garden party, promoted by the Catholic Women’s League, of which Mrs J. Skenlars, of Mangapiko, is the energetic secretary, was held in the Convent school grounds yesterday afternoon under magnificent weather conditions and in the presence of a large number of people. THE STALL-HOLDERS. The various stall-holders were the following:— Produce: Mrs Owen O’Brien, Mrs V. Prior and Mrs R. Noonan. Mixed Stall: Mrs J. Ryan, Mrs R. H. Annibal, Mrs E. Hamilton and Miss T. O’Connor. Cake: Mrs N. R. Delaney, Mrs C. Carthy, Mrs C. G. Mathews, Mrs T. Carter and Mrs H. ’Connor. Tearooms:, Mrs W. Long and Mrs J. Sklenars and Miss McGovern. THE COMPETITIONS. During the afternoon, competitions were won as follows: Lucky Baby: Rowena Hayes 1, Peter Prendergast 2. Cushion: Mrs D. Heslop. Table Mats: Mrs R. H. Annibal. Cake: Mrs Heslop. Ducks: Rev. Father Flynn. Chocolates: Mrs S. Clark. Goose: Mrs Hamilton. Tea: Mrs Syme. t Chocolates (small): Mrs Wiseman. Benzine coupon: Mrs Swain Jnr. Cake: Mrs L. Heslop. Apron: Mrs J. Krippner. Stool: Mrs K. Carter. Doll: Mr M. O’Connor.

Cups: M. Gordon. During the afternoon, the Rev. Father Coglan presented 18 pupils with the certificates which they had won at the recent schools’ sports gathering. The financial result is regarded as highly successful, the proceeds reaching the vicinity of £5O.
